Francis J. "Sonny" Maher

Francis J. “Sonny” Maher is President of Verasiti, Inc. A native of Melbourne, Australia, he has expertise in sustainability, management systems, and environmental, health and safety. He has advised on and audited management programs in numerous organizations representing a wide range of industries. He is an accredited GHG verifier for the California Air Resource Board’s program designed to control greenhouse gas emissions. He is an accredited verifier to the Oregon DEQ’s GHG program. He has been a training consultant to the Global Reporting Initiative and participated in the development of the GRI G3 and G4 guidelines that allow organizations to report on sustainability and social responsibility performance flexibly and incrementally. Sonny co-authored ISO 26000: A User’s Guide, a point-to-point guide to help organizations set and move toward its social responsibility goals. He is a dynamic speaker and has designed and conducted courses in management systems.

Sonny holds a PhD (environmental health) and an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham; a Master’s in environmental science from Monash University, Australia; and a BSc in science from the University of Melbourne. 

Sonny is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH); he has trained as a Certified Sustainability Assurance Provider (ACSAP); and he is a certified Master Auditor by CERTUS in OHS Management Systems (45528594) and in Environmental Management Systems (50970532).
